A coalition of social, justice, and political groups is promising to work for revision of Missouri’s sentencing laws. State Supreme Court Judge Mike Wolff says the concept of alternative sentencing is gaining more acceptance. Wolff says one of the big problems is that judges are not given the discretion as it pertains to sentencing. He believes it could be harmful for a non-violent offender to be placed in prison with violent criminals. He suggests treatment and other alternatives might be better for the individuals and for society.
