As more and more casinos open along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, the effort to stop cheats and thieves from having their way takes on added importance. The Gaming Commission runs a gaming laboratory at its headquarters in Jefferson City. It’s used primarily by members of the State Highway Patrol’s gaming division to learn how the various games are played and to learn what to look for in a potential lawbreaker. The Patrol’s Lieutenant Elvin Seals says if there’s an opportunity to cheat, someone will try, even with slot machines. And, there are several ways to do this. The Jefferson City lab is the only one of its kind in this part of the country. Seals says the facility is often used by gaming officials in other states – including Kansas.
