It’s been six months (Thursday) since the Isle of Capri Casino opened in Boonville. Controversy surrounded the opening of Boonville’s casino. Residents expressed concerns about everything from traffic problems to higher crime rates. Six months later, many of the fears have not been realized. As for the revenues produced by the casino, estimates are $4.5-Million will be generated for the city in the casino’s first year of operation. And, owners of businesses on Main Street say revenues are up since the casino docked. Has the casino also brought the so-called “wrong element” to Boonville? Police say there has been a slight increase in crime since the casino opened, butit’s been mostly petty thefts and people writing bad checks.
