Kemper Military Academy is striking the tent. Missouri’s oldest military school, unable to pull out of bankruptcy, is closing at the end of the week. Kemper was founded in 1844. It graduated its 158th class eleven days ago. Two years ago, the school almost went under, but donations from students and alumni and the elimination of the junior college program bought it another two years. Kemper’s closing leaves Missouri with only two military schools – Mexico Military Academy in Mexico, and Wentworth, in Lexington.
