State lawmakers seem very close to agreement on a $500-Million transportation funding package to be placed before voters in November. Representative Don Koller of Summersville says a few details must be ironed out, but he’s ready to bring a transportation bill to the House floorfor debate this last day of the session. It proposes a 4-cent increase in the gas tax and a half-percent increase in the sales tax for roads, bridges, and other transportation needs. Negotiators are working to resolve differences in a companion accountability bill that legislators want to make sure the Department of Transportation wisely spends any extra money it gets.
