The people pushing to have a ballot initiative giving the people of Missouri the chance to vote on public financing of stadium projects have been handed a bit of a setback. State Representative Jim Murphy of Crestwood and the Reverend Larry Rice are spearheading the effort and brought some sample questions to the Secretary of State’s Office to have the language approved for inclusion on the August, 2004, ballot. But he received word that the Office cannot accept anything for a ballot initiative for 2004 until after the November, 2002, election. He says it’s a bit of a disappointment. Backers of the effort will have their lawyers look into this. Barring any change, the initiative will now likely appear on the November, 2004,ballot.
