A State Representative arrested for drunk driving last month has returned to the Legislature after he sought treatment for what he calls a personal struggle with alcohol. On April 8th, Jefferson City police pulled over Representative Tom Burcham of Farmington for driving while intoxicated. The next day, Burcham left his duties as a lawmaker and checked into a faith-based alcohol treatmentcenter in St. Louis. Burcham says his physician has released him from in-patient care to receive out-patient treatment. Burcham says his biggest ordeal during the past month has had nothing to do with his political career. Burcham is a freshman who is seeking re-election. He says he has received extraordinary encouragement from his district and his fellow lawmakers since his return.
