Another case of meningitis has turned up at Fort Leonard Wood in South Central Missouri. It’s the fifth such case in as many weeks. A 20-year-old soldier, who is in training at the post, was diagnosed with the diseasedespite receiving an innoculation last week. Health officials at Fort Wood say it takes 10 to 14 days for the innoculation to take effect. More than 5,500 people age two to 29 have been given shots for meningitis over the past two weeks. About a month ago, a 12-year-old boy connected to the post died from the disease.
