A Catholic seminary in Hannibal in the spotlight because of allegations of sexual abuse there years ago is going to close at the end of the year. The Jefferson City diocese says St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary is suffering from insurmountable financial problems and low enrollment. Theschool has 27 students now. The seminary has been in operation since 1957. The head of the diocese, Bishop John Gaydos, says the sex abuse allegations make it unlikely enrollment can be increased. Gaydos says there are no allegations of abusive behavior involving any current members of the school’s faculty.
