Senator Christopher Bond wants America to explore for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. But some Missouri farmers would rather see the country explore renewable fuels, such as corn-based ethanol. Bond says the impact of drilling in Alaska would be miniscule. But Gary Bradley with the National Corn Growers Association in St.Louis says for farmers in Missouri who grow the corn to put in ethanol – a renewable, alternative fuel – the amount of area is not the issue. It’s a matter of making sure Americans are weaned off foreign oil. Bond agrees. He says any proposal to drill in the Arctic must be tiedto a comprehensive energy package, including ethanol.
