The troubled Kansas City School District has been granted provisional accreditation by the State Board of Education. The Board voted 8 to 0 in favor of accreditation. It’s a move that heads off a state takeover of the district. Kansas City School Superintendent Bernard Taylor says this is only a first step. He hopes to move from provisional to permanent accreditation as quickly as possible. The next state inspection of Kansas City schools is set for January of 2004.
