The Cardinals dropped their second straight game with a 14-5 loss to the Diamdond Backs. The Redbirds only lead of the game came in the 1st when Edgar Renteria drove in Fernando Vina with a ground out. But it didn’t last. Arizona stomred back with a run of their own in the first inning and sixmore in the second. The D’backs added six more in the fourth. Andy Benes was charged with three of the ten runs scored in his three innings. He allowed four walks, dropping to 0-2. The Cards and Snakes do it again tonight. Bud Smith faces Randy Johnson.•Right-handed reliever Gene Stechschulte has been sent down to Triple-A Memphis. The Cardinals recalled fellow righty Travis Smith.
