In a tight state budget year with little hope of getting more money from the Legislature, Legal Services of Missouri is proposing a funding change. Advocates for Legal Services, which provides lawyers for the poor, propose increasing the cost of filing a major civil lawsuit by 20 dollars and a minor one by ten. The cost of filing an appeal would jump 20 dollars under the proposal. The increases would raise about $5.5-Million and would allow Legal Services to double its operation, and would replace the annual requests to the Legislature to increase funding.
