Governor Bob Holden has announced he’s supporting the renewal of the bistate sales tax initiative in the Kansas City area. The Governor was flanked by Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes and other Kansas City area civic leaders, and by Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt and Royals owner David Glass as he made the announcement. The original one-eight-cent bistate tax was approved by voters on both sides of the Missouri-Kansas state line in 1996. The renewal needs approval of the Missouri Legislature, as well as the backing of voters in Jackson County, Missouri and Johnson County, Kansas. Part of the money raised would be used to make renovations to Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums.
