The questions about the St. Louis Cardinals’ pitching staff are being answered unpleasantly to start the season. Andy Benes gave up five runs in four innings…four of them earned…as the Cardinals lost to the Colorado Rockies 6-1. Benes gave up four hits and walked four…and also allowed two home runs. Benes’ poor outing comes the night after Garrett Stephenson struggled. The St. Louis offense wasn’t much better…collecting eight hits but drawing only one walk in putting one run on the board. The Cardinals’ only run scored on a sacrifice fly by J.D. Drew. John Thomson picked up the win for Colorado, giving up 7 hits in 7 innings. The Rockies took 2 of 3 games from the Cardinals in the season-opening series.
