An extensive revision of Missouri’s law on abuse of the elderly has been advanced by the state Senate. The state wants better, more timely, reporting of abuse cases, and is offering protection to employees to report problems. At the same time, the proposal could mean fewer inspections for some nursing homes. Senator Betty Sims says state inspections should be every 15-months -to coincide with federal inspections – instead of every 12 months. Nursing homes with problems would get more frequent inspections under her bill which has been tentatively approved by the Senate.
