Organizers of a petition campaign to raise sales taxes for state highways and other transportation programs are ready to drop their efforts. The coalition of groups, which includes the Misosuri Farm Bureau and the Misasouri Chamber of Commerce, had only a few weeks left to get 125,000 signatures. The group simply ran out of time. It plans to get behind an effort in the Legislature toincrease various taxes for transportation.
