Missouri National Guardsmen are facing a little longer “layover” at the state’s eight airports. The Guard’s airport security mission was supposed to wrap up at the end of this month when new federal employees would takeover that job. Now, it looks like the guard will stay until the end of May. Guard Commander General Dennis Shull says the logistics of hiring thousands of new federal employees caused the delay. Right now, about 200 Guardsmen are helping with security at the state’s eight airports. Shull says field commanders tell him about 80 percent ofthe Guardsmen are glad to stay. He says there are plenty of trained Guard to fill in for those who want to go back home.
