A State Senator from Kansas City is sponsoring legislation aimed at improving the troubled Kansas City School District. Senator Mary Bland says she wants what is best for the students of the Kansas City School District. To that end, she’s calling for the creation of a 15-member planning commission for the district. The commission would be made up of educators, union officials, and business representatives, among others. Bland is not optimistic. She expects the bill to die in committee. Similar legislation met the same fate last year.
