A strong measure from the Missouri House, as members unanimously approve a bill allowing prosecutors to pursue rape cases indefintely. No one votes against removing the statute of limitations on rape. The bill passes 132-to-0 and moves to the Senate. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Ralph Monoco of Raytown got the strong vote he wanted so a message is sent to the Senate: act now. Thebill would end an inconsistency between the state’s two appellate court divisions and remove the current three-year statute of limitations. Sponsor Craig Hosmer of Springfield tells Representative Matt Bartle of Lee’s SummitDNA evidence lasts well beyond that limit. The bill would also remove the statute of limitations on attempted rape.
