Capitol Hill lawmakers will soon decide on a national energy policy and the environmentalist group The Sierra Club is weighing in on what it thinks is best for Missourians. The Sierra Club believes in conservation, but is in favor of drilling in the deep waters off the Gulf of Mexico. It opposes any effort to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. The Sierra Club’s Executive Director, Carl Pope, says Missouri would not benefit from this oil. The Sierra Club also wants lawmakers to push for beefed-up miles-per-gallon standards for all vehicles. Pope says following an energy efficient path is the key to addressing, or at least alleviating, some of Missouri’s energy concerns.
