The state’s largest labor organization is geared up for a busy legislative session. The Missouri AFL-CIO has already started pushing lawmakers to get labor’s agenda passed. Among the priorities: Funding the unemployment insurance fund, campaign finance reform, and election reform. But Missouri AFL-CIO President HughMcVey says those issues are not at the top. Equal pay for women is the top issue. A bill called the Equal Pay Act has been introduced in the Legislature. Kelly Gillespie of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce says it’s a nice sounding name for an unnecessary bill. He says supporters just want another opportunity to drag employers into court.
