Governor Bob Holden’s plan to lift loss limits for gamblers to increase funding for education concerns one group which claims there won’t be more education to prevent gamblers from becoming addicted. If the Governor’s proposal goes through, the $500 loss limit currently at Missouri casinos would go away. Gamblers could lose more,putting more money into state coffers for education. Kevin Mullally is the Executive Director of the state GamingCommission. He says loss limits don’t prevent problem gambling. The chair of the Missouri Council on Problem Gambling, Keith Spare, agrees. But he says the state has not provided any plans on how problem gamblers will get more help through public outreach. Spare says it’s not acceptable to increase gaming revenues without increasing the safety net for gamblers.
