A bitter dispute over whether Planned Parenthood should be able to receive state family planning funding ended today as Attorney General Jay Nixon dismissed the lawsuit that challenged the funding. Nixon took action after the State Supreme Court sent the case back to circuit court and ordered Nixon to either pursue the case further or dismiss it. Nixon says he won’t pursue it further. He says if the legislature wants to cut off abortion funding, lawmakers need to vote for zero funding. Nixon said the legislature also could draft a law that would require family planning services be completely separate from abortion services. Anti-abortion lawmakers claim Planned Parenthood doesn’t keep enough distance between the two, something Planned Parenthood denies.
