Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Morris Westfall of Halfway is proposing a $436-million tax increase to improve Missouri’s roads. The plan would see voters asked to approve a 5-cent per-gallon increase in the motor fuel tax. In addition, it would raise the state sales tax by three-eights of a percent. Westfall’s plan would also transfer some existing fuel tax revenues away from other state agencies and to MoDOT – the Missouri Department of Transportation.
