A clemency request has been placed before Governor Holden, asking the governor to commute the death sentence against James Johnson to life in prison. Johnson is scheduled to die by lethal injection in the Potosi prison death chamber a minute after midnight. Johnson’s lawyer, Chuck Gordan, says appeals through the federal courts have proven futile, leaving the clemency request as the last chance to spare Johnson’s life. Johnson killed three central Missouri law enforcement officers and Pam Jones, the wife of Moniteau County Sheriff Kenny Jones, the evening of December 8th, 1991. He hid out December 9th at a woman’s house in California, Missouri before surrendering to authorities December 10th.
