Less than a week from the start of the Missouri Legislative session and Democrat and Republican members of the House Agriculture Commitee are looking ahead to the upcoming session. Representative Sam Berkowitz of Memphis, the new Chairman of the Committee, is focusing on value added ventures – ethanol plants, for example, which add value to corn production by creating more uses and more demand. Ranking Republican Representative Ken Legan of Halfway agrees value added ventures are important, but sees tax breaks as a good way of helping those ventures. The two disagree on the Livestock Marketing Law, which they believe will be addressed again in the future.
