The St. Louis State Senate seat left vacant with the resignation of Senator John Scott in October will stay in Democrat hands. State Representative Harry Kennedy has won a three-way race to replace Scott. Kennedy, who has served in the Legislature since 1996, captured 68 percent of the vote. Republican Matt Hoffman took 29 percent, while Green Party candidate Bob McFall won 3 percent of the vote. Voter turnour was pegged at 14 percent. The new make-up of the Senate will have 18 Republicans and 15 Democrats. A special election will be held in February to fill a vacancy created with the death of Senator Paula Carter of St. Louis, who died last month.
