A Missouri House committee studying tax credits has heard from Economic Development Director Joe Driskill, who says that of the 31 tax credit programs in existence in the state, most yield good returns. Driskill says there is perception among many that tax credits are used solely to benefit corporations – but this is wrong. Driskill says only about 34 percent of the total amount benefits corporations. The rest is used in individual income taxes and other programs. Driskill says that in these times of budget restraint, it will be important to look carefully at each and every tax credit program to determine whether any given program is worth the tax credit.
