Missouri State Fire Marshall Bill Farr is offering tips on picking out and the care of Christmas trees. Farr says the earliest anyone should shop for a tree is this weekend, otherwise there’s a chance the tree might become a fire hazard by the time Christmas rolls around. He advises keeping the tree watered, checking it every day. He says additives to the water can helo byt are no substitute for daily checking. As for the lights, Farr says make sure wires are not frayed. Finally, keep the tree away from heat sources and open flames, especially fireplaces and candles.
