A group that has dug in its heels against more money for transportation has a change of heart. The Missorui Farm Bureau now appears ready to support tax hikes for transportation improvements. The organization had demanded more money be spent in rural areas and the Chairman of the State Transportation Commission be replaced. The Chairman has been replaced and the Farm Bureau says that is enough to restore credibility. It says it’s easier for the Commission to change the allocation of funds to meet rural needs if it has more money. The Farm Bureau has not decided how much more in taxes it will support – that has to be worked out with other special interest groups. The Transportation Department says it needs a billion dollars a year more than it gets now to meet the state’s transportation needs.
