It may have been a dissapointing season for the Kansas CIty Royals, but a couple of players stood out in the eyes of the local baseball writers. Centerfielder Carlos Beltran has been voted the Royals Player of the Year while righthander Jeff Suppan has been named the organization’s Pitcher of the Year. Beltran hit .306 in 2001 with 24 home runs and 101 runs batted in. Suppan finished the season with a 10-14 record and a 4.37 ERA. The righthander struck out 106 in 218 innings of work.
