An innovative settlement could resolve long-standing environmental complaints lodged against Premium Standard Farms of northern Missouri. Premium Standard Farms and Continental Grain Company have agreed to pay a $350,000 civil penalty and spend up to $50-million to improve waste treatment at their large hog farms. The consent decree is subject to public comment for the next thirty days before a judge accepts it.
