The author of a national report critical of Missouri’s move toward tougher school standards calls the movement toward standards “half done”. Heidi Glidden wrote the report “Making Standards Matter 2001” that reviews testing standards across the country. The American Federation of Teachers issued the report. The report calls Missouri’s math and science standards clear and specific. It says social studies standards are inconsistent across grade levels. It calls the state’s English standards weak. The report suggests the state devise proper curriculum in line with its standards, then let the tests develop from that curriculum.
