Missouri Director of Insurance Scott Lakin worries that insurance companies might use the terrorist attacks on September 11th as an excuse to raise rates. Lakin recently attended a conference held by The National Association of Insurance Commissioners in Washington, D. C. to discuss the industry and its regulation in wake of the terrorist attacks. Lakin says insurance companies have indicated they might want to adjust rates by exempting terrorist actions for payoffs to policies. He calls that a dangerous idea that could lead to a broad interpretation of “terrorist act”.
