The State Health Department is taking steps to better protect Missourians from bioterrorism. Health Director Marlene Dempsey says her agency set up a bioterrorism and emergency response unit more than two years ago. She says the job now is to develop a faster response plan. Dempsey says her department also is increasing its surveillance systems – to spot, diagnose, and treat illnesses that might be linked to bioterrorism.
