The acts of terrorism and fear of further violence could do serious harm to Missouri’s tourism industry. In times of crisis, or just uncertainty, people are less likely to spend money on such perceived luxuries as travel. University of Missouri economic professor Rob Weagley says acts of terror and the ensuing fear are hurting the airline industry and the entire economy – including tourism, which is Missouri’s second most important industry. Weagley says there might be a plus side: Many Missourians planning on traveling outside the state might spend their money here.
