State revenues for August are up, at least slightly. But it’s still too early to tell whether the economy is making a turnaround. Missouri Revenue Department Director Carol Fischer says general revenue funds are 2.3 percent higher than during August a year ago. She says the gain is from a dramatic increase in the inheritance tax and a smaller gain in the individual income tax. But tax revenues from retail stores sales were down about 4 percent from a year ago. Fischer is hoping the tax rebates many Missourians have already received will fuel more retail sales.
