Key backers of a change in the state Livestock Marketing Law say Speaker Jim Kreider’s opposition will not keep them from pressing the issue during the upcoming special session. Speaker Kreider has said he sees no need to change the law and that a compromise worked out among some farm groups with some lawmakers might not holdup. Governor Holden’s Office says the Governor remains committed to the compromise. The law, meant to protect small producers, has chased some packers from the state, costing Missouri livestock producers between $7-million and 20-million.
