First it was probation and parole workers. Now, another group of state employees has filed with the Board of Mediation for the right to hold a union election. State health care workers have collected the necessary names on a petition – even though they are not covered by Governor Holden’s executive order which gives some state employees the right to bargain collectively. The workers are asking to be represented by the Service Employees International Union, the same union vying to represent probation and parole workers. The health care employees hope the spirit of the executive order will transcend the current rules and be extended to them.
