The St. Louis Cardinals dealt outfielder Ray Lankford to San Diego on Thursday for RHP Woody Williams. Lankford had been on a leave of absence since Tuesday after complaining about a lack of respect. The two teams had tried to work out a deal before the trading deadline but they could not come to terms. However, both players cleared waivers making this post-deadline deal possible. The Cardinals will also be sending more then 2.8 million dollars to the Padres to cover Lankford’s salary. Williams is 8-8 this season with a 4.97 ERA. He will join the Cardinals rotation. He is expected to make his debut Saturday against Florida.
