Red oak borers are devastating vast tracks of forests in Arkansas. And Missouri foresters are watching out for the insects in this state. Forest rangers in Arkansas have seen the insects severely infest 300,000 acres with estimated damages in the million board feet range. Here in Missouri, the bugs haven’t been as bad, despite some of the same conditions. Missouri forests are in pretty good shape, but foresters are watching the areas of thin soils where the trees are already weakened.
