Albvert Pujols snapped an 8th inning 3-3 tie with an RBI single, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins. Placido Polanco hit a two-run home run in the win while Edgar Renteria added a solo shot. On the mound, “Bud” Smith went seven strong innings, but he had to settle for a no-decision. Making his second Major League start, Smith allowed just two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out four. Steve Kline (2-3) gets the win in relief for St. Louis with 1 1/3 innings of shutout work. With the win, the Cardinals improve to a game over .500 at 46-45.
