Dustin Hermanson (7-7) pitched seven shutout innings and keyed a five-run fifth-inning explosion with a leadoff single as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Minnesota Twins 5-1 on Sunday in interleague action. Hermanson allowed just six hits while walking three and striking out four. At the plate, his broken-bat single to center was the first of seven fifth inning hits as the Cardinals scored all their runs in that one frame. Ray Lankford capped the inning with a two-run single. All-Star righthander Joe Mays allowed all five runs in 4 1/3 innings of work to fall to 11-6 on the season. The same two teams battle tonight, “Bud” Smith gets the call for the Cardinals.
