Mike Sweeney’s recent hot-hitting has earned him the American League Player of the Week Award. The Royals first baseman lead the AL in hits last week with 13 and he was tied for first in runs scored (9), home runs (5) and runs batted in (12). This is the first time Sweeney has won this award. Royals centerfielder Carlos Beltran finished second in the voting.
