Raul Ibanez dropped Jim Thome’s fly ball to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning, setting the table for Einar Diaz’ two-out RBI single as the Cleveland Indians beat Kansas City 2-1, snapping the Royals six-game winning streak. Tony Cogan (0-3) takes the loss for Kansas City even though it was Jeff Austin who allowed Diaz’ single. Paul Byrd pitched well for the Royals, allowing a run on five hits in sixinnings of work. C.C. Sabathia was even better for Cleveland. He twirled seven shutout innings, fanning eight. Despite Sabathia’s great work, the win goes to John Rocker who earned his first decision in a Cleveland uniform with a scoreless ninth inning.
