Edgar Renteria committed two critical errors in the seventh inning, leading to three unearned runs as the St. Louis Cardinals lost in Atlanta 7-5 to the Braves. That three-run inning snapped 4-4 tie and pinned the loss on Gene Stechshulte. Chipper Jones homered twice for Atlanta, including the 200th longball of his career. Cardinals are now 14-15 on the season, 4 1/2 games out of first in the National League Central.
