Missouri is facing more economic woes. It looked as though a supplemental budget had cleared up many of the problems, but now Governor Holden is saying the state is facing another $50-million to $100-million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year. He’s dealing with, in part, by ordering Cabinet members to tighten their belts and to hold the line on spending. Departments have also been ordered to maximize the use of federal money coming into the state before general revenue dollars are spent. He blames the shortfall on less state sales tax revenue, less corporate income tax revenue, and higher use of the circuit breaker tax credit program that helps senior citizens on fixed incomes with their property taxes.
