House Republicans say the state must show accountability before it can ask voters for another highway tax increase. House Republican Leader Catherine Hanaway of Warson Woods has outlined various transportation proposals, but tells reporters one principle overrides all others in the Republican plan. House Republicans propose a Secretary of Transportation be appointed by the governor, guided by a 10-member citizens advisory board. They also call for $166 million in transportation revenue now going to other state departments return to transportation.
