Governor Holden proposes financial incentives for Missouri teachers to attain national certification. Under the Holden plan, teachers who receive national accreditation would receive a $5,000 supplement and an additional 10% if they agree to mentor other teachers seeking the accreditation. Holden gives notice during a Jefferson City news conference that education will be a top concern of his administration. Holden estimates the program, once fully implemented, will cost $5 million a year.
